The Green Initiative Fund at Hunter College!

23 Feb

On Wednesday, February 24 Hunter Solar Project and a coalition of student organizations launched a campaign to establish The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) at Hunter College. TGIF, based on UC Berkeley’s successful model, will support innovative environmental projects proposed by members of the Hunter community. A committee, with a student majority, will review proposals and award grants to projects that promise to reduce Hunter College’s negative environmental impact, create environmental education opportunities, and/or empower students to implement solutions to environmental problems. TGIF will not raise the Student Activity Fee, but reallocate unused funds for environmental sustainability.

TGIF will be established through student referendum, which requires gathering at least 2,000 signatures just to get the proposal on the ballot for student government elections in April. Hunter students are hard at work engaging their peers and gathering signatures to make their vision of a greener Hunter a reality.

CALLING ALL HUNTER STUDENTS: to volunteer on the campaign, Email with “TGIF Volunteer” in the subject line.
